
Western Field Ornithologists Youth Scholarships

Western Field Ornithologists is offering a limited number of youth scholarships to defray expenses of attending the 33rd Annual Western Field Ornithologists meeting in San Mateo, California, October 9 - 12, 2008. The scholarships are for junior-high and high-school aged students only. Scholarships include :
Any young person who wants to will be warmly welcomed to volunteer to sit on the experts sound and visual identification panels.
This conference is an opportunity for young people to meet, in a small setting, some of the people who earn their living and/or volunteer in biology, field ornithology, bird conservation, and other fields. Complete information on the meeting's speakers, field trip leaders, and workshop presenters, as well as scientific abstracts and the preliminary program, will be posted on WFO's website, www.westernfieldornithologists.org, as these become available.
If you are interested in applying for available scholarships, please email: contact@westernfieldornithologists.org. E-mailed requests for youth scholarships will be accepted beginning on August 15. Each young person must show his or her interest in attending by sending an individual e-mail and a brief description of his or her interests to contact@westernfieldornithologists.org. Mail applications will be accepted and should be sent to WFO c/o 12079 Samoline Avenue, Downey, CA 90242. All requests should include:

The scholarships are for junior-high and high-school aged students only. Scholarships include :
- Meeting registration from Thursday, October 9, to Sunday, October 12
- Full-day field trip on either Thursday or Sunday
- Two morning-long field trips within the San Francisco Bay area on Friday and Saturday
- The opening reception and a book signing and reception
- Friday and Saturday's science sessions
- Friday and Saturday's experts sounds and visual identification panels
- Any hotel-based workshop (on a space-available basis)
- A presentation by the California Bird Records Committee
- Opportunity to hear the keynote address without needing to attend and pay for the banquet
